A Tale of Two Singles

In the past couple of weeks there have been a handful of notable singles released, but two seemed particularly interesting to me.

The first was Justin Timberlake's first single since FutureSex/LoveSounds in 2006, "Suit & Tie." JT is back with a song that is highly anticipated and highly... mediocre. I'm not sure it's a track worthy of the glamour and glitz its title implies, and I'm quite sure that, were I to write a song about dressing up all fancylike and going out, it wouldn't sound anything like this. But whatever floats your boat, I suppose. The track was released a couple weeks ago, but the lyric video was released just the other day. Check it out.

Bonus round: the lyric video contains one single frame that announces the exact date of the album's release. Have fun looking for it.

The second single isn't actually a single, just a new track debuted on The Strokes website. The song is called "One Way Trigger," and it too is a little subpar. It also seems to venture outside of the realm we've come to associate with The Strokes. Interestingly, the band announced that they'd be premiering a new single from a new album at some point soon via 107.7 The End Radio in Seattle, but that song was to be called "All The Time." According to Pitchfork, the station described that song as "packing a classic Strokes sound," which I think can hardly be said for "One Way Trigger." Pitchfork also reported that the station had received one other song that they described as more "synth-driven," so perhaps that's the one we're hearing. At any rate, I don't totally dig it. I'll be anxious to hear what "All The Time" sounds like and what the new album has to offer. In the meanwhile, feast your ears upon these two new, just-okay songs. Hopefully this is not a bad omen for the albums to come...
